MJ has done a lot of things in his life. And he’s usually not shy to tell listeners about those things. From riding with the Blue Angels back in 2007 to recently launching two flavors of ice cream at Small Batch Creamery in St. Petersburg, FL, his resume has been fairly versatile outside of his successful radio career.

On the flipside, he has also admitted he would probably never do certain things in life. Here’s a roundup of some of those activities:

1. Skydiving or bungee jumping – Even though MJ has been scuba diving all over the world to some pretty deep spots, he refuses to go the other direction up into the air and jump out of a plane. He has done several stories on the show about people dying or getting seriously hurt from activities like these.

2. Taking a hot air balloon ride – Another air-centric activity he would avoid is riding in a hot air balloon. Once again, he’s talked about numerous accidents involving these balloons on the show, which likely plays into his fear of riding in one.

3. Ordering from Uber Eats or DoorDash – MJ insists that people are lazy for ordering from food delivery apps. When Chloe was about to order Chipotle on one of them, he flipped out at the cost and decided to go pick it up for her.

4. Eating pizza from a chain or out of the frozen food section – We all know how much of a self-proclaimed pizza snob MJ truly is and which places live up to his barometer for good pizza. As such, you’ll probably never find him eating pizza from a place where Fester might frequent, such as Pizza Hut, Domino’s, Papa Johns (with its famous Shaq-a-Roni), or Little Caesars. Plus, there’s a good chance you would never find a frozen pizza from DiGiorno or Red Baron in his freezer.

5. Drinking beer – MJ is big into wine and has mentioned having quite the collection at his house. He also likes certain types of liquor. But don’t expect him to take a sip of a beer you put in front of him. He has said he just doesn’t like the taste of it.

6. Religiously watching a reality TV show – While Fester is a big fan of Big Brother and some other reality shows, MJ has no interest in them. He believes that a good amount of reality shows are staged and anything but real.

We all know Milton Fludgecow, the Crotchety Old Man who called businesses to complain about a wide range of issues he had with their products and services. But now, the Milton Fludgecow name is being slightly altered in order to be applied to an ice cream.

Last fall, Small Batch Creamery in St. Petersburg launched MJ’s Triple Killa Vanilla ice cream. It’s been a hit ever since with MJ Morning Show listeners driving from hours away to come try the delectable frozen treat – and some even bringing coolers to take more home. They’ll now have another reason to visit the ice cream shop to enjoy this new version of MJ’s famous ice cream.

Small Batch Creamery officially launched Milton Fudgecow chocolate ice cream this month. For all the “chocolaholics” out there, they can now indulge in ice cream that’s much more up their alley compared to the Triple Killa Vanilla variety. MJ and the crew also plan to do another ribbon-cutting ceremony for this ice cream at some point soon.

According to MJ, he is not receiving any cut of the sales from the Milton Fudgecow or Triple Killa Vanilla ice cream. Instead, a portion is being donated to Seaside Seabird Sanctuary.

Budgets were slashed. Problems kept arising. Every excuse in the book was made. For over five years, the MJ Morning Show crew patiently awaited a brand new studio from which they would broadcast the show. The Q105 “shoebox of a studio” from 2006 was hanging on by a thread, and something had to give.

That day finally came on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. At 6 a.m., MJ cracked the mikes in a much more spacious studio with a new digital console, nicer chairs, mikes and space for more guests, TVs showing the MJ Morning Show logo behind the crew, and even improved airflow. It was a bit of a rocky start to the broadcast because of a major echo when MJ turned on Fester and Michelle’s mikes. The live stream on all of the radio apps was also down until about 7:20 a.m. But thanks to hard work from Andrew and the engineers, Chris and Max, many of the issues with the new setup were resolved that morning.

The good news is that we won’t have to hear MJ or others complain about the old studio and wonder whether they would ever move into their new digs. Now the question of MJ and Fester’s contracts comes into play. Both are up very soon, and we can only hope that they will sign new deals so they can actually enjoy using the new studio space for the foreseeable future.

MJ takes pride in his culinary creations. From his famous cacio e pepe to his pomodoro sauce, he’s whipped up some interesting – and tasty – concoctions in the kitchen over the years.

For the first time, one of his signature desserts is now on the menu at a local eatery. Small Batch Creamery, an artisanal ice cream shop in St. Petersburg, rolled out MJ’s Triple Killa Vanilla this month. MJ claims it’s the best vanilla ice cream around, and several people have taste-tested it to support this claim. What makes it unique is how creamy it is and how the recipe has three different types of vanilla in it.

The MJ Morning Show crew and Small Batch Creamery celebrated the launch of this new menu item with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and meet-and-greet event at the shop on Wednesday, October 22 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. It was a rare opportunity for listeners to see the crew in person these days. MJ said between 400 and 500 people came out to the event. He even stayed an extra half hour to talk to more listeners and have them try the ice cream. MJ and shop owner Alfred Bronda have said that dozens of gallons of his ice cream have been served at the shop since it was first introduced a few weeks prior to the event.

In addition to this unique partnership, a portion of MJ’s Triple Killa Vanilla sales are being donated to Seaside Seabird Sanctuary, a local avian rehabilitation hospital & sanctuary that cares for sick, injured, & orphaned native wild birds. MJ owned an African grey parrot, Casey (named after Casey Kasem), for nearly 30 years and has always had a soft spot for animals. The organization also helped rehab an injured bird that landed in his yard a few years ago.

Because of a decent anti-vanilla crowd that exists, MJ mentioned that he’d also like to add a chocolate version to Small Batch’s menu. He floated the idea of calling it “Milton Fudge-cow,” a name that would pay homage to his famous Crotchety Old man character Milton Fludgecow.

The morning of Tuesday, August 5 went down in the MJ Morning Show history books as a pretty unusual day. The Q105 104.7 FM signal was off the air from 7:08 to 9:06 AM. The cause? A comedy of errors among the transmitter sites.

First, there was a TECO power outage at the main transmitter site for the radio station which is located in the Palm River area of Hillsborough County. The nearby backup generator also failed. Then, the third and final backup in St. Petersburg near the Beasley Media Group studios also went down. This means for nearly two hours, listeners only heard static if they were listening on a terrestrial radio. A listener named TJ was the first to let the crew know about the outage.

While the FM signal went down, MJ and the crew did continue the show for streaming listeners could tune in either on one of the streaming apps like iHeart or TuneIn, or watch MJTV on the YouTube stream. MJ sounded extremely down in the dumps and kept saying it was “the worst feeling in the world as a broadcaster” to not have the ability to reach the listeners like he normally does, and he was afraid listeners would move to other shows and not come back. He also kept saying he was seriously ready to call it quits and claimed he was texting management that this would be his final broadcast. He and the crew decided not to delve into any of their regularly planned material and instead took calls from listeners who were hearing the show online. Many callers attempted to talk MJ off the ledge by offering their support. With no FCC regulations for streaming audio, Both MJ and Fester dropped an “s-bomb” at different points as well.

Another interesting moment happened during the stream. For the first time on the show, MJ told the real story of why the original run of the MJ Morning Show left the airwaves back in February of 2012. He said management at 93.3 FLZ at the time felt pressured by Hot 101.5, a new Top 40 radio station that popped up in Tampa back in 2011. That station was running promos poking fun at MJ and saying he was getting old. So, management decided to go younger – and much cheaper – by canceling MJ and syndicating The Kane Show from Washington, D.C. He also said the company (Clear Channel at the time) paid out the remainder of his contract. We don’t know how much time was left on his deal though.

This wasn’t the first time the MJ Morning Show and Q105 have experienced a major transmitter failure. Back in 2022, a tropical storm took the station off the air for nearly two hours. MJ had a similar tone and threatened to leave the station back then as well. We can only hope that no further transmitter issues crop up in the future because the third time just might be the charm for MJ to say goodbye to Beasley. On the bright side, however, hearing MJ and the crew in an “unfiltered” environment off of the regular FM signal is kind of neat. It reminds us of the MJ Morning Show Podcast which ran for over a year from September of 2019 through the beginning of the show’s return to Q105 in October of 2020.

A listener named Sabe who is a musical artist recently submitted two jingles he created for the show. One was a more generic MJ Morning Show jingle about what the show does, mentioning the roles of MJ, Fester, and Michelle. The second jingle was a spotlight on the “Morons in the News” segment.

MJ praised both jingles and said he thought they were very clever. They were completely unsolicited, and he appreciated Sabe for taking the time to produce them.  However, for the “Morons in the News” jingle, Fester quickly piped up to say he felt like it sounded more like a ‘90s Will Smith song and that it definitely didn’t have a good vibe to it. MJ then jumped on Fester’s case, and the two went back and forth before they took calls from listeners. Seven out of 10 callers said they didn’t like the song.

Unbeknownst to Fester, MJ then had a secret plan up his sleeve to get back at him. He read two emails on the air that he claimed were sent by Sabe. The first one implied that Fester had something coming his way at the end of that particular broadcast and that the crew needed to see what he was going to send at the conclusion of the program. Right around 9:50 that morning, MJ excitedly said he got the second message from Sabe. It implied that Fester’s 2010 Cadillac in the parking lot might be gone. So, MJ quickly shut down the show, and he and Fester went outside to see that the car was missing from its normal parking spot. Fester was just about to dial 911 to report a carjacking, but MJ had to stop him to tell him that he made up the whole thing. He wrote the emails that were supposedly written by Sabe. He also had Andrew take Fester’s keys at some point during the show to move his car to a different spot before the end of the show.

The next morning, the crew invited Sabe into the studio to talk about what had happened and to give he and Fester a chance to talk out Fester’s beef with him. Fester still said he didn’t like the jingle, but Sabe didn’t take it all that personally. Sabe even came back into the studio the following morning to debut a song about Fester.

It was refreshing to see this type of bit play out on the show. We haven’t seen a ton of bits like this of late, especially since Froggy’s departure last summer. It would be nice to see more bits like this involving stunts.
